A look inside...

The space inside the harem tents can only be described as magical.  We enter there from our different walks of life and often we do so tired and escaping from the day, week or month we have had. There have been times when we have not had the time to prepare for the gathering.  It seems not to hinder the process in any way. In some ways it adds to the magic.

All who have been to these gatherings have shared how they were able to relax into a space and energy that seemed to welcome and enfold them. Those who write on the subject explain that the coming together of women to a set apart space, with the intention of honouring their feminine wonder, invokes healing, comfort and calming powers.

Inside the warmth of a harem tent we surrender to an intuitive and sacred way of being.  It is a time when the scariness of being loved and allowing vulnerability seems to dissipate in the glow of a power which calms and silences the need to protect and set up boundaries. We are so conditioned to do this that we do not realise how much of our energy it saps.  In many ways, it seems like the only way to exist.  Only once we have bathed in the tenderness of this calming and uplifting stillness do we realise what power it contains for us individually and as a community.

A harem tent is a dedicated sanctuary in time and space for healing and honouring.  Inside these tents we take the time to truly honour women for their beauty, wisdom and power.  Most often the honouring happens without words.  The need for healing our minds, bodies and spirits is a deep yearning within all of us, consciously and unconsciously.  You may even find that as you read these words your emotions are stirred.  You may be wondering where such emotions of grief or fear or longing are coming from.  In the harem, it becomes clear without your asking.

There are many activities that we engage in.  Most are very simple gestures like the washing of feet and bestowal of blessing.  We retell folk tales in their unadulterated form and with the help of amazing women writers like Dr Pinkola Estes, we unpack the secrets our mothers of old preserved for us in the once-upon-times ... The “Red Shoes” will have a whole new meaning for you. The women in a harem tent become a sisterhood who support each other through life and acknowledge the changing seasons of our cyclic lives with rituals that honour and impart blessing ...

Take a deep breath and be still for a while ... a voice inside you will tell you what a harem is and a yearning will rise up in you

... welcome to the harem
